A large centre of cultural production and dissemination in Brazil, the State of São Paulo offers options for cultural activities to meet the expectations of the most diverse types of public. Orchestras, operas, ballets, exhibitions and shows from around the world present their art on the Paulista stages the year over, in a program with extremely diverse options from both the cultural and financial perspective.
The capital is the national reference in the organization of large events, such as the International Arts Biennial, the Book Biennial, the International Film Festival, the International Shorts Festival and the Virada Cultural, among others. According to São Paulo Turismo, the capital houses 260 movie theaters, 160 theaters, 110 museums and 40 cultural centers (2013).
