SP prepares incentive program to increase industrial production

The government of São Paulo wants the State to resume its position as the country's leader in industrial increase. In order to do so, a policy of incentives to be applied between 2008 and 2011 has been delineated. Among the priorities are the implementation of the agency of promotion for small- e average-sized companies, and incentives to the growth of the automobile and auto parts sectors.  The goal is to focus the investments in the areas with greater potential for the generation of jobs, income, and taxes. From the 26 sectors analyzed, the State Government defined priority the automotive and the auto parts ones. In September, 2007, the Institute of Technological Research (IPT) and universities of the State of São Paulo carried out a study on competitiveness within 26 industrial sectors. The survey was evaluated by some businesspeople. Based on the analyses and the study, the Secretariat of Development will define, until May, the industrial policy for the next years. The budgetary proposal for 2008-2011 - already sent to the State House of Representatives - foresees the allotment of R$ 83.9 billion (US$ 47.7 billion) in infrastructure. Were foreseen, for example, the modernization of the CPTM, works in Rodoanel, recovery of vicinal roads, improvement of the Santos and São Sebastião ports, etc. Regarding the education sector, the foreseen budget is R$ 23.1 billion (US$ 13.1 billion) for high-school and higher education investments. The government of São Paulo's goal is to expand the number of positions in technical education from 70 thousand to 170 thousand until 2010. Regarding the technological education sector the objective is to double the number of units, up to 52 technology colleges (Fatecs).
