Shell sees Brazil with 5% of global oil production in five years

Valor International

Brazil’s share in the global oil production will reach about 5% in the middle of the next decade, helped by resources from the pre-salt layer. This is the estimate of Wim Thomas, chief executive of the future energy scenarios team of Shell. Mr. Thomas says Brazilian production already accounts for nearly 3% of global oil demand. For comparison, considering data from the "World Energy Outlook 2013," of the International Energy Agency, a 5% share today is equivalent to the total oil production of Angola and Venezuela, two members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The Anglo-Dutch oil company is a partner of Petrobras in giant pre-salt field Libra, in the Santos Basin, which has recoverable volumes of 8 billion to 12 billion barrels of oil, potentially doubling Brazil’s reserves.
