Retail in SP sells 4.4% more

The real sales (after deduction of inflation) in the commerce of the metropolitan region of São Paulo grew 4.4% in 2007 compared to the previous year, according to a survey from the Federation of Commerce of the State of São Paulo (Fecomercio-SP). In December, the expansion was 4.6% compared to the same month of 2006. The institution considers the expansion of the credit offer, the economic stability, and the employment increase in the metropolitan region of São Paulo the factors that contributed for the warming of commerce last year. "Moreover, the reflex of the Christmas sales and the good moment lived by the building material and furniture and decoration stores pushed sales up", reported the Fecomercio. With a 16% growth in real sales last year, the building material stores were at the top of the 2007 performance ranking. In December, the increase was 20.6% in the comparison with the same month of the previous year. The sales of the car dealerships grew 14.3%, the second best index in retail. Compared to December, 2006, the expansion was 5.4%. The year also ended with a positive result for the sectors of furniture and decorations (increase of 12.9% in the 2007 sales compared to 2006's), household electric and electronic devices (10.1% growth), clothes, fabrics and footwear (rise of 9.8%), pharmacies and perfume shops (increase of 7.9%).
