Private-equity group Pátria Investimentos plans to enter the data center market with the creation of a new company, Odata. The company, which received an initial investment of R$200 million, plans to build a data center in the city of Santana de Parnaíba, São Paulo. The 13,500-square meter unit is scheduled for conclusion in the first quarter of 2017, and will receive more than R$250 million in funds over the next three years. The initial effort is part of a broader plan that will include the construction of another three data centers within the next five years. Felipe Pinto, partner for the infrastructure area at Pátria, says the company's interest in data centers is linked to advances in the concept of cloud computing – in which systems are accessed through internet connections and aren’t installed in the equipment of the client company or of the end consumer.
