"Investe SP is mobilized to transform the State into a national and international reference as innovation hub for health ", said Quirós

Glauco Arbix, former president of Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos (Finep) and current general coordinator of Observatório de Inovação e Competitividade at Instituto de Estudos Avançados (IEA), Universidade de São Paulo (USP), met with President of Investe São Paulo, Juan Quirós, on the morning of Monday, June 23. The meeting was aimed at discussing technological innovation projects and the management of technology parks in São Paulo.

Arbix, who is also a professor of the Sociology Department at Universidade de São Paulo (USP), argues that technology parks should adopt a vocational guidance in attracting companies. "Although technology parks should not be based on an exclusive relationship with a particular economic sector, I believe that it is important to prioritize areas considered strategic for the state", he said.

Health Project

During the meeting, Quirós presented Health Project, an initiative developed by Investe SP that will enable investments in the productive chain of the private sector, including medical and hospital equipment and machinery, supplies and drugs, thus creating a new business environment. The project was created as from the entry into force, in April this year, of a law that allowed opening the supply of health services to foreign capital, ranging from hospital management and construction to equipment manufacturing, among other activities.

"Investe SP is mobilized to transform the State of São Paulo into a national and international reference as innovation hub for health and life sciences. By attracting major investors from this area, the entire chain will benefit, creating jobs and enabling SP to improve its management, labor training and scientific and technological development", said Quirós.

The professor also talked about the importance of initiatives as the one developed by Investe SP: "In addition to being very dynamic and critical for society, the health sector attracts professionals from different areas. Therefore, it should receive special attention from the State".

With the experience of having attracted over 100 investments to the State of São Paulo, totaling R$ 32 billion, and generating 57,000 direct jobs, Investe SP has attracted major companies in the health sector, such as Bionovis, Orygen, Toshiba Medical, and others.
