Industrial activity grows 7.5% in 12 months in SP

The industrial activity of the State of São Paulo grew 1.4% in the month of February, without seasonal adjustment, according to a survey of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp). Including the seasonal adjustment, the growth was 1.5%. Comparing the month of February of this year to 2007's, there was a 13.1% increase. According to Fiesp‘s director of the Department of Economic Research, Paulo Francini, this result "shows that the industry is doing what it is expected that it does". In the two first months of the year the increase of the industrial activity of São Paulo was 12.9% compared to last year's same period. In the accumulated in the last 12 months, the growth reached 7.5%. "The industry showed a strong growth rate, which is the result of the demand and of the increase of the productive capacity, fueled by the strong investments made in machinery and equipment, which gives us a panorama of continuity of expansion", said Francini. The level of use of the installed capacity (Nuci), without the seasonal adjustment, was 81.9% in February, compared to 81.8% in January. In February, 2007, the rate was at 79%. "When the Nuci is at a vigorous level like this, it inspires greater productivity, industrial efficiency and induces to a continuous growth of the productive capacity", stated the officer.
