North American multinational Guardian, one of the largest crystal glass manufacturers in the world, is going to build its second factory in Brazil, in Tatuí, in the region of Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo. The investments for the opening of the new factory total R$ 220 million (US$ 125.7 million), which will be used for the production of several glass lines: tempered, screem printing, insulated, and for solar control. The launching of the first stone will be on April, 25th, with the participation of the state governor José Serra. The expectation is that the factory starts to produce in April, next year. Between 250 and 300 jobs will be created. "This will be South America's largest glass factory, with an estimated production of 800 tons of crystal float per day », said Guardian's director for Latin America Mark Lacasse. The North-American multinational invested R$ 1.8 million (US$ 1.03 million) in the purchase of a 34-hectare estate, next to the Antonio Romano Schincariol highway (SP-127). Since 1998, the company operates in Brazil, with a plant installed in Porto Real, interior of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Besides serving the glass sector, Guardian manufactures products that supply many sectors of the automotive industry, such as windshield, rear-view mirrors, and plastic parts. The company has its headquarter in Auburn Hills, Michigan (USA), and plant units in more than 20 countries in North, Central, and South America, in Europe and in Asia.
