Ford expands truck exports to other Latin American markets

Valor International

Ford aims to take Brazilian-made trucks to three new markets in Latin America: Mexico, Colombia and Peru, in order to better use available capacity at its São Bernardo do Campo plant – truck makers with plants in Brazil have been forced to shut down production for extended periods as domestic demand stumbled with the recession. Negotiations with local dealerships have started and would include opening three to five stores in each of the countries, taking advantage of the more competitive exchange rate to expand exports now focused mostly on Chile and Argentina. Truck exports have risen to 28% of production last year from 13% in 2014. Foreign sales already are the destination of 60% of trucks made by Scania, for example.
