Finame disburses 60% more in capital goods in the first two months

Valor Econômico - 02/27/2008

The BNDES (Brazilian Social and Economic Development Bank) increased by 60% the financing of machines and equipment in the first month of the year in comparison to January, 2007. Valor verified that the performance of the Finame, the Special Agency for Industrial Financing of the BNDES, reached levels never reached before in the history of the bank in the first two months of the year. The total amount disbursed to finance capital goods by the area of indirect operations of the BNDES, through financial agents, may reach R$ 3.2 billion (US$ 1.82 billion), that is, 60% more than in last year's January/February period, a record. The result of the releases of funds from Finame for the acquisition of machines and equipment by the industries in the first two months confirms the expectations that the companies are investing in the renewal of their productive capacity, in modernization and that the businesspeople are confident in the economic growth. According to the bank, the purchasers of capital goods financed by the BNDES are fairly spread out through the several sectors of our economy, with greater emphasis on the sectors whose expansion strategy aims at the domestic market, such as the sectors of foods, beverages, textiles, and clothing. Irrespective of the foreign exchange, these sectors resumed their investments.
