Estre, a São Paulo-based company specialized in environmental management, is setting up a company to operate as a recycling company for the solid waste from civil construction, the Ecology Station (Estação Ecologia in Portuguese). The company, founded in 1999, intends to take advantage of the boom of the construction companies to become a reference in the segment of the recycling of waste, mainly concrete. For Estre's commercial officer Akiko Ribeiro, there is a great potential market to be explored. Estre, which is still in its initial stage, is taking the European companies as a model to do this work. Akiko spent last week in England and Holland getting to know some companies that have already become specialized in this segment. However, Akiko believes the first recycling unit of the Environmental Station will already be at full steam until the end of October. The company is currently operating experimentally at a unit installed in Taboão da Serra, in the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo, where a machine to grind the concrete debris was installed. After that, the company believes it will be able to produce a large variety of artificial sand, gravel, and pebbles, which may be resold to the building companies. With almost ten years of operation, Estre is specialized in environmental management, management of solid waste and recovery of degraded areas. The company has units in São Paulo, Santos, and São José do Rio Preto. Besides, the company also operates in Buenos Aires.
