Eldorado Research Institute and SMART Modular Technologies inaugurate laboratory for chip prototyping in Brazil
Eldorado and Smart open laboratory for prototyping cutting-edge semiconductors
Investe São PauloOn Wednesday, November 8, Eldorado and SMART inaugurated a laboratory for the development of semiconductor products and processes, based at the Campinas unit of the Institute. The purpose of the initiative is to establish a long-term plan to implement a Technological Semiconductor Packaging Laboratory.
The project relies on the support from Investe São Paulo, the investment promotion agency associated with the state government, mainly on tax matters. “Initiatives like this are a priority for our state, as they generate innovation, value added and use qualified human capital,” said the director of Investe SP, Sérgio Costa. He represented the state government during the event.
The partnership between SMART and Eldorado aims to significantly optimize their activities. SMART will be able to further refine its chip research and development activities, and Eldorado will add to its existing facilities an advanced prototyping laboratory for the development of new technologies and the training of human resources in highly complex production processes.
“This laboratory model is unprecedented in South America and, for us, Eldorado, it is a great honor to be chosen to welcome this structure,” said José Eduardo Bertuzzo, Technology and Products Executive at Eldorado.
With a total area of approximately 350m2, the new laboratory has clean rooms class 100, class 1000 and class 10000, commonly used for testing and manufacturing products in which the contamination by particles present in the air damages the result.
“This is a state-of-the-art laboratory with a strictly controlled environment that will enable research and validation of new types of packaging technologies, materials and processes, with the purpose of improving the quality and reliability of SMART products”, says Cleber Figueira, Senior Manager of R&D and Product at SMART. In addition, the infrastructure can be used to provide training to professionals and the production of pilot batches of products.
The implementation of the semiconductor laboratory carried out by SMART and Eldorado is part of the Support Program for the Technological Development of the Semiconductor Industry (PADIS). This strategic program promoted by the federal government encourages the development of the national industry of chips, from the design of the components to the production of the final product, significantly contributing to the development of new technologies and to the qualification of professionals in the country for the latest technologies in terms of products and production processes around the world.
