Brazilian Angus producers aim for Europe

Valor International

After winning Agriculture Ministry recognition to the “Brazilian Angus Beef” seal of quality, the Brazilian Angus Association started a trade offensive in partnership with meat processors to export prime cuts to the European Union. Shipments started two months ago from Marfrig, which expects to sell 12 to 13 tonnes a week in Germany and Netherlands by late October. It's the first Brazilian livestock product with breed identification, deriving from a partnership between the trade group, the ministry and global bodies to improve tracking and monitoring of animal products. Marfrig says the Angus cuts already won a 5% to 10% premium over the average price of fresh beef exports to the EU.
