The Industrial LED lighting fixtures plant of the English group Dialight was visited by the project manager Franklin Ribeiro, from Investe São Paulo, to monitor the start of operations. The investment promotion agency associated with the State Department of Economic Development, Science and Technology has been assisting the nationalization project of the company since 2013, when the company arrived in Brazil.

“We are aware that one of the main reasons for having chosen Jundiaí for this investment was the availability of skilled human capital. The region has a good vocation for companies related to electrical engineering,” said the president of Investe SP, Juan Quirós.

The multinational is investing R$ 4 million in the new plant, located at Avenida João Antonio Meccatti, in the district of Casa Branca. In 2014, the company invested approximately R$ 1.5 million, selling and assembling high-tech fixtures from subsets imported from other factories of the group located in Mexico, United States and England.

According to the CEO of Dialight Brazil, Laércio Pereira, the expectation is that the plant expands in the upcoming years. “We are assembling between 20 and 30 fixtures per day, but we have a production capacity for 200 pieces/day. It is a matter of market demand,” he said. If this expansion takes place, the staff could grow from 7 to 60.

According to Pereira, the support from Investe São Paulo in the dialogue with the Department of Finance was essential for the success of the project. “We requested special regime for the suspension of ICMS [Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services] in the customs clearance of extremely important components. Without it, the production cost would be so high that it would make it impossible to do the business,” he said.

The company currently supplies mainly to industries in the automotive, oil and gas, mining, steel and food sectors. However, depending on the government incentives for the sector, Dialight may start R&D activities at the plant in Jundiaí.

“We will continue to work with Dialight to encourage federal and state governments to create policies that stimulate the substitution of imports in the lighting sector. We know that the LED market in Brazil is just beginning to heat up, and São Paulo has the potential to lead a major development in the area,” concludes the president of Investe SP, Juan Quirós.

Currently, Dialight imports all subsets that make up the equipment. However, by beginning the process of nationalization of its components, the company brought from the United States a mold for the local injection of the aluminum body of its fixtures, thus increasing the domestic content of the product.

The staff of the plant is responsible for integrating the electronic controller and the optical module of the lighting fixture into the body and apply other optical and mechanical components, in addition to performing various tests and quality controls in the finished product.

Unlike traditional light bulbs that are provided separately from the fixtures, the LED lighting equipment should be understood as a single piece which integrates the mechanical structure to the electronic and optical components. This is because these elements were designed to work together in order to allow the necessary light emission and heat dissipation that maximize the lifetime of LEDs.

About Dialight

With over 40 years of experience in the development of LED technology, acronym for Light-Emitting Diode, the British group holds units in operation in the United States, Great Britain, Mexico, Denmark, Germany, UAE, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and now, also in Brazil.

Lighting solutions based on the LED technology offers several advantages such as low power consumption, longer lifetime, smaller size of equipment, durability, resistance to vibration and reduced heat emissions, in addition to not using mercury, a chemical element that causes extreme environmental damage.
