On February 11, Osvaldo Matos (O/M) announced that it is nationalizing its production of technical luminaires with a manufacturing plant in Jundiaí. It will be the first manufacturing unit of the Portuguese company in Brazil, and by April 2017, it should be housing the production of the entire portfolio of products manufactured by the brand.
The investment project relies on the support from Investe São Paulo, the investment promotion agency associated with the State Department of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation. “There has been a lot of talk about the crisis, but in the state of São Paulo we continue to welcome investors who know the opportunities that the exchange rate and the international scenario provide,” said the president of the agency, Juan Quirós.

Osvaldo Matos produces technical and high standard luminaires, mainly based on the LED technology. Through custom designs, they are installed in various types of environments, such as hotels, hospitals, offices, retail, shopping centers, churches and places of worship, stadiums and gyms, homes, etc. The company has been operating in Brazil since 2009, and realized that local production would be key to its growth in the country.

“We were invited to develop projects in Brazil in the first decade of the 2000s and we realized the great potential for our company. We took advantage of the early years to understand the opportunities in the sector, look for a network of suppliers and attract projects of great public notoriety, thus gradually increasing our presence in the market. We realized that bringing our production here would be essential to grow and meet the demand more efficiently, in addition to being independent in terms of foreign exchange,” said Nuno Matos, president of the company.

According to him, Jundiaí was chosen for being located near the company’s headquarters, which is in the city of São Paulo, where its main clients are. “There we found good access roads, a vast network of suppliers and skilled human capital,” he said.

In total, we invested R$ 2 million in the factory, which will employ 20 people.
