French company produces high-standard finishes for the construction industry

Stone Performance, which has units in France and Portugal, has just opened a unit in the state of São Paulo, in the city of São João Boa da Vista, 220 km from the state capital. The company invested R$ 6 million in facilities and machinery for treatment and transformation of various types of stones such as marble, granite and onyx in bathtubs, sinks, floors and high standard finishes.

With the strategy of being close to the sources of raw material, the company decided to open a unit in Brazil, which will serve the domestic and international market. Finished products ready for installation will be exported. This will bring a logistical gain, since it will reduce the volume of shipping abroad. For this, the company needed to invest in the training of specialized personnel and in differentiated machinery, to add greater value to the product before its sale. Going in the opposite direction of the market, which mainly exports raw blocks and slabs.

In order for the plant’s implementation deadlines to be met on schedule, the company relied on the support from InvestSP, which provided tax, infrastructure, environmental and institutional advice to the company.

The unit in São João da Boa Vista features modern equipment for the treatment of raw materials coming from different parts of Brazil, such as Paraná, Minas Gerais and Ceará. Stone Performance holds patents in Europe for the STONE PERFORMANCE PROCESS technology, which produces ultralight panels to be applied indoors and in facades using natural materials. The implementation of this technology in the production process should take place in the second half of this year.

The stone cutting and layout projects are developed at the design office integrated to the plant. Made from photos of the plates of the material to be used, the drawings allow better use of the raw material, ensuring the continuity of the veins between the plates. There, 3D models of the sinks, bathtubs and of any sculpture produced in solid stone are also made. In total, 20 new jobs were created in the operation of the plant and the office, with the expectation of doubling this number by the end of the year.

For the director of Stone Performance, Darius Sani, the support from the state of São Paulo helped the company to start its operation in Brazil with more confidence. “It is essential to rely on the support from an institution that assists and supervises the various administrative and licensing procedures in the opening a new industrial unit. Only then, we could meet our schedule,” he said.

The company lands in the country with a major project in progress. It was contracted to produce 20,000 square meters of marble flooring, walls and ceilings, as well as 500 sinks and 20 massive bathtubs for the Allard group, responsible for revitalizing the area of the former Hospital Umberto I (Hospital Matarazzo). The real estate project combines preservation and restoration of the architectural heritage of the capital with the construction of a Luxury Hotel called Cidade Matarazzo, which will be operated by the Rosewood network.

For InvestSP, the investment shows that it is possible to attract international suppliers of all sizes to the state of São Paulo. There are several areas where Brazil has quality raw materials but companies able to process them according to the market demands are lacking. The investment of Stone Performance will help Brazil process internally what was previously sent as raw material abroad to return to the country as a finished product.
