O Estado de S.Paulo - 11/08/2007

The sales of national and imported vehicles in the Country have broken a new record in October - they increased 19.8% in comparison with September and 39.5% when compared with the same month of 2006. The data was published yesterday by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers (Anfavea). In the aggregate of the year, sales reached 1.98 million units, an increase of 28.8% in comparison with the period between January and October of 2006. The result exceeded the total internal sales of national and imported vehicles in 2006 (1.92 million) and broke the 1997 record, the year of the best sale of cars in the history of the Country: 1.94 million vehicles. Exports also broke records this month, and reached US$ 1.29 billion, a high of 13.2% compared to September, and 20.7% in comparison with October/2006. In the aggregate of the year, exportations have grown 6.8% in relation to last year. The total production of vehicles was also record this month and reached 299.3 thousand units. Compared to September, it increased 18.3%, and in comparison with October / 2006 it grew 31.6%. In the year's total, the increase reaches 12.8%, equivalent to 2.48 million units. The growth of the Brazilian automobile market can already be considered consistent and it may continue in the mid and long terms. That's the assessment of the Anfavea's President Jackson Schneider. According to him, except for international surprises, the Brazilian industry may receive investments in new products again, as well as in the increase of the installed capacity, currently at 3.5 million units.
