Raise in production may take Brazil to 6th place in vehicles

Gazeta Mercantil - 12/07/2007

Brazil may move two positions up in the international carmakers ranking until the end of 2008. With an expected production of 3,240 million cars, trucks and buses for the next year, the industry installed in Brazil is likely to surpass what France and Spain produce, 6th and 7th places among the greatest international makers. Currently, Brazil is in 8th place in this ranking. The projection is from the National Association of Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), which foresees a growth of 8.9% in production for 2008 - this year Brazil is likely to close with 2,975 million and next year, 3,240 million vehicles. Since France and Spain have slow growing markets they may lose position for the Brazilian expansion, in case the Country keeps up the current path of development of the industry. If the industry keeps the daily production average of November, of 9,304 vehicles, in the 240 business days on the average of 2008, the Country will get close to the limit of the current installed capacity of 3.5 million cars, commercial light vehicles, trucks and buses. According to the projection made by Anfavea, the Brazilian domestic market will amount to 2,450 million units until the end of this year - an increase of 27% compared to 2006.
