Horiba to move headquarters from capital to interior aiming at increasing production of reagents, achieving new customers and increasing staff

Investe São Paulo, São Paulo State Government agency responsible for attracting and maintaining investment to the State, subject to the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science and Technology, signed this Thursday, March 17, at the City Hall of Jundiaí, a letter of intent with Horiba, with the purpose of facilitating the setting up of the new plant of the Japanese multinational in the municipality located 49 km from the capital. The Mayor of Jundiaí, Miguel Haddad, the President of Horiba, Hamilton Ibanes, and the President of Investe SP, Luciano Almeida, besides authorities and representatives of the company were present at the event.

Since 1997 in the neighborhood Jurubatuba, in São Paulo, Horiba sought a new place, outside the capital, to expand its plant. With the support of Investe SP we identified municipalities that met the needs of the company, which chose Jundiaí. According to the President of the São Paulo Agency, the city has a great potential for the attraction of investments. "Jundiaí is at a privileged location. It is near the capital and Campinas, which are two of the main centers of consumption in the State, it has quality infrastructure with roads such as Anhanguera, Bandeirantes and the Road Beltway, besides qualified workforce and excellent quality of life", said Luciano Almeida.

The manufacturer of equipment and reagents for diagnostics, leader in the Hematology segment, estimates an expenditure of nearly R$ 15 million (US$ 8.82 million) in the construction of the new headquarters, which will have nearly 4.9 thousand square meters of built-up area and will be located in a 10-thousand-square-meter area in neighborhood of Medeiros. "The arrival of another company is of extreme relevance for the development of our city and the generation of jobs deserves to be highlighted. The investments we made in the city made it more competitive and attractive for the companies", said Mayor Miguel Haddad.

The reagents are used in equipment for in vitro diagnostic. It is possible that the plant starts producing equipment that would cater to the medical and scientific segments of Horiba . "We will increase our production from 2 million to 3 million liters of reagents a year, but the new plant will have capacity for 6 million liters", said President of Horiba, Hamilton Ibanes. The works of the new undertaking should begin still this semester and it is estimated that the production starts in January 2013, when Horiba intends to hire another 20 employees. The 80 employees who currently work in the capital will be reallocated to the new plant that should generate nearly 200 direct and indirect jobs.

To the President of Investe São Paulo, Luciano Almeida, the multinational will not face difficulties to start the construction of the undertaking. "We are supporting the company in the process of obtaining of licenses and permissions required for the setting up and operation, and also in the contact with the concessionaires of electric energy, gas and telecommunications. Horiba should be able to start the work until June", he said.
