Goodyear completes third project assisted by Investe São Paulo

Initiatives include a cogeneration system that has become a reference in the area

Goodyear’s cogeneration project using natural gas at its plant in Americana, Cogen, has become a role model for other companies, reducing costs and lowering emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere. The project was recently completed and relied on the support provided by Investe São Paulo, the state government investment promotion agency.

The adaptation allows the generation of 60% of the electricity and 100% of the steam consumed at the plant, using two different forms of energy in the same process. Among the advantages are the high reliability of thermal energy from steam and the economy in the transmission and distribution of this power, making Goodyear less exposed to the fluctuations in the energy cost in the market.

Cogen is the third project assisted by Investe São Paulo at the same plant. “Over the past few years, Goodyear has made a number of improvements at the plant in Americana, and Investe SP has been a partner in each one of them. These are projects that have received special attention, especially because they are focused on sustainability,” said Sérgio Costa, director of Investe São Paulo.

Also this year, Goodyear completed the improvement works of the pigment weighing room of the plant. Investe SP also assisted the company in the installation of the effluent treatment system and the reverse osmosis system, generating water savings equivalent to the consumption of 13,000 people per day.
