Country receives US$ 87 bi, highest amount since 1982

O Estado de S.Paulo – 01/04/2008

Brazil never received so many US dollars as in 2007. The data released by the Central Bank yesterday show that the inflow of resources more than doubled in relation to 2006 and reached US$ 87.454 billion last year. The result is the highest of the series which began in 1982. The trade balance and the record investments from foreign investors in the São Paulo Stock exchange (Bovespa) explain the number. Analysts affirm, however, that the inflow of US dollars should not be as strong in 2008. The result from 2007 was 134.64% above that registered in the previous year. This balance was guaranteed mainly by operations related to the foreign trade that contributed with US$ 76.746 billion. The so-called cash flow added another US$ 10.708 billion to the account. The total of US dollars that entered the country through exportations grew 33.24% in relation to the previous year, but what called the analysts' attention was the financial result, in which the investments in the financial and capital markets are included, which closed the year positive for the first time since 2000.
