Aguz settles in Guarujá for the mass production of catamarans

Company transfers watercraft plant from São Paulo to the coast and expects to double revenues

Aguz started operations at its new watercraft plant in Guarujá. The project involving the transfer from its former plant in Diadema to a unit with easy access to the sea had the purpose of allowing the company to start the mass production of catamarans, also expanding the access to the international market and the range of personalized boats in its portfolio.

To find the ideal location for the project and assistance in infrastructure and environmental matters, the company relied on the support from Investe São Paulo, the investment promotion agency associated with the Department of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation of the state of São Paulo.

With the transfer, the production area of the company quadrupled. Approximately R$ 12 million were invested in the works, which generated 60 indirect and 30 direct jobs. The expectation is to more than double the company’s revenues with the sales made from the new structure.

According to Amodio, the decision to transfer the plant to the coast came from a bold and old project of Aguz to create the largest luxury catamaran in series ever built in Brazil. “The demand for this type of watercraft was the one that grew the most between 2015 and 2016 in the world,” says the company’s sales director, Rogério Amodio.

The product is also one of the few in the country that enables total mobility for wheelchair users. “To give you an idea, the boats we manufactured in São Paulo were up to 12 meters in length and weighed up to six tons. The 60-foot catamaran measures approximately 18 meters in length and weighs 26 tons - four times more,” says Amodio.

The size of this type of watercraft requires its construction to be near the water, so that the transport does not make the product more expensive. Another advantage of the transoceanic launched by Aguz is the certification. The watercraft is being prepared with all the parameters required by Europe and the United States.

At least six catamarans should be built in 2018, in addition to 25 to 30 smaller boats of various models. “We stand out for the high level of customization and the quality in the details. We use a relatively small production scale to focus more on customization,” says Amodio.

An example of a customized watercraft that will be produced by the company are the catamarans for the Navy, in Rio de Janeiro.
