Toyota plans to make the Corolla at Sorocaba plant

Valor International

Japanese carmaker Toyota will invest R$30 million to assemble the Corolla at its plant in Sorocaba, São Paulo. The goal is to alleviate the situation at the Indaiatuba plant, also in São Paulo, which has been operating extra shifts to meet demand for the sedan. The Sorocaba unit already makes the Etios, Toyota’s entry-level model and the adaptation process is expected to take a year. Despite the ailing car market of Brazil, Toyota is reporting 9.4% growth in sales this year and has sold 60,900 units of the Corolla until November, easily assuring its leadership in the medium-sedan segment with a 35.7% share.
