On Wednesday, August 13, Termomecanica announced the beginning of the operations of its two new factories in the plant in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo. The expansion involved investments of R$ 300 million over the past three years to increase by 45% the production of tubes, plates and laminates produced in copper and copper alloys. The project relied on the support of Investe São Paulo, the investment promotion agency linked to Secretariat  of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation.

The company's goal is to improve the efficiency and competitiveness in view of its main competitors in the international market. This reaffirms its position as a leader in the domestic market and enables the exploration of new markets, following the growth of the industry demand in Latin America, and therefore, favoring exports. Over the past four years, the volume exported by the company jumped from 1.7% to 13.8% of the total volume sold. The goal is that by 2016 this figure reaches an annual average of up to 30%.

“The support from Investe São Paulo is important to enable part of the investments that allow the expansion of the production capacity, quality and competitiveness. It is these efforts that, held on an ongoing basis, keep Termomecanica in a leadership position in the market, always striving for innovation and excellence in products and services,” says Regina Celi Venâncio, president of Termomecanica.

With the new lines, there was the creation of 70 jobs. Investments encompassed civil engineering works, procurement of equipment with the latest technology, installation and training of manpower. The annual production capacity increased from 90,000 to 130,000 tons.

“We assisted Termomecanica primarily on tax matters. We are aware that the plant is already part of the history of ABC Paulista, which greatly contributed to the development of the region over the past 70 years,” says the President of Investe SP, Luciano Almeida.

The expansion in the tubes area included a new business unit with the technology of continuous production, with greater agility – called cast & roll. Thus, the installed capacity of this machinery reaches 40,000 tons per year, improving product quality and reducing delivery times. As for the new production line of laminates, which required an investment of R$ 100 million (including equipment and infrastructure), the accuracy and embedded technology of the new equipment acquired will not only increase the productivity and installed capacity, but also add value to the final product. With this, Termomecanica will offer laminates with greater precision in terms of technical specifications, which needed to be imported in the past due to the limitations of the industrial park of domestic producers.
