The Port of São Sebastião, on the north coast of the State of São Paulo, begins to enter in the emerging "off shore" segment of the Santos basin, with the signature of an operational contract with Singapore's Consolidated Pipe Carriers (CPC), which starts to manage the supply chain for the Mexilhão field. Petrobras will build a 135-kilometer gas pipeline up to Caraguatatuba. According to the president of the São Sebastião Companhia Docas, engineer Frederico Bussinger, who signed the contract yesterday, the port will handle 220 thousand tons of cargo with those operations, which corresponds to more than 40% of its historical annual values. The contract will last six months, and it may be extended for an equal period. The implantation of the gas pipeline, which will be under the responsibility of Acergy, a multinational company of submarine engineering of the petroleum and gas segment, contracted by Petrobras, will also involve the port of Ubu, in Espírito Santo, where 12 thousand tubes will be embarked. After stored in the Port of São Sebastião, they will be taken to oceanic waters, towards the platform. The first ship to arrive in the coast of São Paulo, the "Box Carriers", is scheduled to arrive in February, with forecast for the laying of the tubes on the oceanic bed for April. The Mexilhão project is dimensioned to produce 15 million m3 of gas per day, with maturation for 2010/2011. In its first stage, until the beginning of 2009, it will produce the equivalent to 9 million m3 per day. The Bolivia-Brazil contract foresees the supply of 30 million m3/day. The Port of São Sebastião, with new legal formatting since June of 2007, after leaving Dersa's control, has short-term investments evaluated in R$ 6 million (US$ 3.4 million).
