Promafa, a company focused on derivatives of cassava and waxy maize, expanded its operations in Palmital (SP) to start producing sweet potato-based products as well. The project, assisted by Investe São Paulo, the investment promotion agency of the state government, involved a R$ 15 million investment and the creation of 40 jobs.

The new machines will allow the preparation of starches, flours and, especially, tapioca made from sweet potato, which has become increasingly popular for its nutritional properties.“The new brand Yuk BR will be aimed at an audience that seeks healthy, high quality food,” says Sebastião Silvio, Managing Partner of Promafa, noting that all products made by the company are gluten-free.

The new items should start being produced and sold in July, in supermarkets, natural products stores, grocery stores and food emporiums across the Southeast, South and Midwest of Brazil.Depending on the market acceptance, there should even be a new expansion in the future.

“The food and beverage industry in the state of São Paulo has become more and more diversified in recent years, and we have been looking for healthier and more sustainable products.Promafa follows this trend, bringing innovation and technological progress from genuinely Brazilian ingredients,” says the director of Investe São Paulo, Sérgio Costa.

Investe SP has been assisting Promafa by providing strategic information related to tax incentives and in important relationships for the regulation of the plant in Palmital.
