On October 28, São Paulo Negócios, a company that promotes trade and investments in the state capital and Investe São Paulo, the investment promotion agency of the state government, promoted the opening ceremony of São Paulo Tech Week 2015 (SPTW). The event was offered by one of the partners of SPTW, IT Mídia, which also hosted the event.

In addition to the authorities, the presidents of IBM Brazil, Marcelo Porto; Stefanini, Marco Stefanini; Google Brazil, Fábio Coelho and the CEO of Totvs, Laércio Cosentino participated as speakers. The director of São Paulo Negócios, Beatriz Gusmão, was the master of ceremonies.

“This event is a landmark of the partnership between the public and private sectors. Despite the strengths that São Paulo already has as a technology hub, it is necessary to create actions that support the internationalization of companies that are already here and attract talents,” said the president of SP Negócios, Rodrigo Pirajá.

According to Sérgio Costa, director of Investe São Paulo, the moment for the creation of a week dedicated to the subject was ideal. “We always knew that information and communication technology is a strategic sector to achieve development through quality jobs, high-value goods and services. Positioning the state capital as the hub of this sector is to position the state as a whole,” he said.

The Municipal Secretary of Finance and Economic Development of the city, Rogério Ceron, spoke about the support that the public sector is trying to provide to technology companies. “We have shown that it is possible to make public policies through joint efforts. The government should be a catalyst for initiatives that do not necessarily need public funds,” he said.

Lectures

“Tech Week perhaps reflects the destiny of the city of São Paulo, which, as we analyze it, we see that it is destined to be a service and technology hub,” said Laércio Cosentino, Totvs. According to him, it is necessary to stimulate the growth of companies with people who contribute to an ever-ready and connected society.

Marcelo Porto spoke about cognitive computing, which, according to him, is what will possibly differentiate the technology from now on. “We need to foster ecosystems that develop complex systems behind the big platforms. And it is through partnerships with governments that we will be able to have the skilled labor required to make it possible,” he said.

Following the same logic, Marco Stefanini highlighted São Paulo as the most vibrant city in the ecosystem of technological development of Brazil. “Latin America lacked an initiative like this week, promoted at the center of Brazilian entrepreneurship. And it should continue for a long time,” he said.

“We are increasingly showing that technology has a role that goes beyond the digital divide, illuminating every inefficiency and turning it into business,” said the president of Google. According to him, it is necessary that all government levels establish clear rules, stimulating competitiveness and the conditions for entrepreneurship.
