The 12th edition of Automec discussed the prospects of the automotive aftermarket industry

On April 7, the president of Investe São Paulo, Juan Quirós, highlighted the importance of the automotive industry in the opening ceremony of the 12th edition of Automec – International Trade Fair for Autoparts, Equipment and Services. The event, which discussed the difficulties currently faced by the automotive industry and outlined a scenario for the automotive aftermarket industry in the upcoming years, was attended by the director of the Department of Industries of Transportation Equipment of the Secretary of Production Development of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), and by the presidents of unions and industry associations.

Representing the governor, the president of Investe SP highlighted the state’s potential: “São Paulo is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in the world and also has the most complete and diverse industry of automotive parts in the country. Nearly 70% of the companies affiliated to Sindipeças are here. These companies have chosen to settle in a region that provides logistics infrastructure, differentiated ports and airports,” he said. He said that Investe SP and the government are at the disposal of entrepreneurs that operate in this market. “We know the difficulties faced by the industry today and we are ready to meet these demands,” said Quirós.

According to Margarete, we are undergoing a moment of reflection towards the present and future of the industry. “Now is the time to implement both emergency and medium and long term actions. We need innovative solutions and the joint construction of a propositive agenda that meets the industry needs. The development of the country involves the industry,” said Margarete.

The president of the Vehicle Components’ Industry National Trade Federation (Sindipeças), Paulo Roberto Butori, highlighted the need to encourage the renewal of the fleet as an alternative to achieve the industry recovery. “We must use the crisis we are facing in the economy in favor of the country’s development. I am convinced that the automotive aftermarket industry will help recover the automotive sector, which currently consists of 4.5 million vehicles. We have great opportunities to explore at this moment,” he said.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Antonio Carlos Silva, president of the Vehicle Repair Trade Federation and Associates of the State of São Paulo (Sindirepa), Francisco de la Torre, president of the Vehicle Parts and Accessories Retail Trade Federation of São Paulo (Sincopeças) and Renato Gianini, president of the National Association of Autoparts Distributors (Andap) and Vehicle Parts and Accessories Wholesale Trade Federation of São Paulo (Sicap).
