Omron Healthcare, a Japanese giant in the healthcare devices and equipment sector, has just announced the construction of its third plant in Brazil. The unit will be built in the city of Jundiaí, state of São Paulo. The announcement was made by the company during a ceremony that took place on Wednesday, May 23.

The new unit, which is expected to start operating by the end of 2019, will be built on an area covering 22,000 square meters, with 11,000 square meters of built area. After the construction, the new unit will become the plant with the largest production capacity - twice as much as the unit in São Paulo.  The company expects to boost production from 1,2 million units a year to 5,4 million by 2022.

“We have been assisting Omron on a number of issues for the past two years - especially in the search for the ideal location for the new plant. We are very proud to be able to help making this plant a reality, since it will further increase the market for medical devices in Brazil,” says Sérgio Costa, director of Investe São Paulo - the investment promotion agency of the state government. During the event, he was represented by the agency’s general manager, Ana Beatriz Fernandes.

According to CEO and President of Omron Healthcare Brazil, Wanderley Cunha, the company’s increased production capacity is part of a strategy to export to Latin America. To get an idea, by 2022, the company expects to report a 450% growth in the production volume.

“Omron’s new plant represents another important step for the company to achieve its mission, which is to improve people’s quality of life by delivering innovative, clinically validated medical equipment for health monitoring, treatment and disease prevention,” says Wanderley. In addition, with the new plant and local production, Omron Healthcare Brazil becomes even more self-sufficient, reinforcing the importance of Brazil to the company, which is currently the fourth most important market for Omron in the world. “With the production capacity of the new plant, the company shall reduce the import of components and products, further increasing its competitiveness,” concludes the president.

The new plant will produce all the products in the company’s portfolio, but the expansion of the plant will be very important for the entire portfolio, especially for the production of TENS, a newly launched product for home physiotherapy and for the treatment of back pain, arthrosis or arthritis.
