Manufacturer of parts for the aeronautical industry announces plant in São José dos Campos

Dallas Aeronautical Services (DAS) will have the production of components and an aircraft maintenance facility at Univap Technology Park; Production begins in 2014

The American company Dallas Aeronautical Services (DAS) has announced on Wednesday, August 14th, that it will settle at Univap Technology Park, in São José dos Campos (SP), its first unit outside the United States. The event took place at the company’s booth during the opening of Labace (Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition), and was attended by the President of Investe SP, Luciano Almeida, the managing partner of Dallas, Eliezer da Silva and the director of Univap Technology Park, Eduardo Bastos, in addition to authorities and representatives from state and municipal universities and agencies.

The new unit will produce composite materials for the executive aerospace industry focused on the development of new technologies and innovation. The project, which has been assisted by Investe São Paulo, associated with the Department of Economic Development, Science and Technology, also involves a repair facility under process of certification with Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency).

“We have been working with Dallas for a year now. During this period, we advised the company in the relationship with Univap Technology Park and Senai, which will offer training courses that meet the human capital needs of the company. We are also collaborating on tax matters, in the adequacy of the infrastructure where the company will settle and on the environmental permits,” said the president of Investe São Paulo, Luciano Almeida.

The company plans to start operations in the first half of 2014, with an investment of approximately R$ 1 million and the creation of 10 jobs. The plant will be located in an area of approximately 6,500 square meters and will also serve the sectors of defense, oil and gas, army, navy and air force.

According to the general director of Dallas Brazil, Paulo Dominonni, the state of São Paulo was chosen to host the investment for having the best logistics infrastructure in the country. "I highlight the region of São José dos Campos where we are settling, with large infrastructure and support to the development of innovative studies, which will provide us a differentiated strategy in the sector of repair and production of composites,” he says.

For the secretary of Economic Development, Science and Technology of the State, Rodrigo Garcia, the installation of the new plant next to Univap Technology Park will contribute to the increase of scientific production and acceleration of the economy at Vale do Paraíba. “The company will be located in a favorable environment to business. At the same location, the entrepreneur will find universities, research institutes, technology-based incubators, which stimulate the exchange of experiences between companies, making them more competitive and innovative,” he adds.

According to Dominonni, innovation is one of the pillars of the company’s strategy in Brazil. The partnership with Univap Technology Park will allow Dallas to rely on researchers, PhDs and skilled professionals to develop the company’s projects with Brazilian technology. The aim is to transfer the American technology, as well as develop new technologies and processes, allowing Brazil to grow within the area of repairs, tests and handling of composite materials.

“This memorandum of intent is the first step to the future partnership, whose terms will be addressed in an agreement to be entered into in the future, after due formalities. This partnership corresponds to the activities of the Technology Park, which seeks to articulate the activities and scientific knowledge derived from the University with modern application and business practices,” said the general director of the Technology Park, Prof. Dr. Eduardo Jorge de Brito Bastos.

The definition of the area was decided in partnership with the municipality of São José dos Campos, which has been supporting the company throughout the process since its visit. The city of São José dos Campos has major aerospace companies in the country and the most developed cluster of the industry, as well as universities, research centers and skilled professionals with expertise in the area, which was certainly a differential to attract the company’s investment.

“We are pleased that our city will welcome the first unit of DAS outside the United States. São José dos Campos is ready to welcome ventures of this size, which add value to the city, as well as innovation and technology for the development of our country,” says the mayor of São José dos Campos, Carlos Almeida.

Event - This is the third participation of the company at Labace. This year's event, organized by Abag (Brazilian Association of General Aviation), takes place until Friday at Congonhas airport, in São Paulo.

Investe SP participates in the fair every year with the purpose of exploring new investments to the state of São Paulo. Dallas was contacted during Labace 2012 by the agency’s prospection team.
