Industry advances in 14 surveyed regions

The industrial production registered increase, in the total accumulated between January and November, 2007, in all 14 regions surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The national average was 6% and the leaders of the growth were Minas Gerais (8.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (8%), Paraná (7.1%), Espírito Santo (6.7%), and São Paulo (6.1%). In the comparison between the months of November of 2007 and 2006, the regional indexes showed a "generalized growth profile", which reached all places, except the State of Pará (- 2%). Compared to October, there was a fall in seven regions in November. The strongest fall occurred in Paraná (- 9.1%), which went 14.1% up in the previous month. The national average indicated a 1.8% retreat. The production of São Paulo, which represents 40% of the national production of the sector, retreated 1.6% in the monthly base, after advancing for three consecutive months in this base of comparison.
