Companies are already joining the export incentive program launched by Investe SP
São Paulo Division of the Industrial Export Extension Project (PEIEX) aims to assist 260 companies with the inclusion of experts in partnership with Apex-Brazil and ESPMInveste SP
More than 70 companies have joined the São Paulo State Division of the Industrial Export Extension Project (PEIEX), which was launched by Investe São Paulo and Apex-Brazil on June 7 at Palácio dos Bandeirantes. Among them are entrepreneurs from various sectors who want to start exporting and thus generate more jobs in the state of São Paulo. Investe SP is the investment promotion agency associated with the Department of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation of the State of São Paulo.
The PEIEX São Paulo Division is a partnership between Investe SP, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brazil) and the Master’s and PhD Program in International Management of Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM). The intention is to stimulate competitiveness and promote the exporting culture, especially in small and medium enterprises, qualifying and expanding the markets to new industries or to those already active in foreign trade.
The PEIEX is a program promoted by Apex-Brazil that has already assisted 16,200 Brazilian companies in 14 states. Through a methodology developed and successfully tested by Apex-Brazil, the companies assisted by PEIEX are diagnosed and receive guidance on foreign trade.
On Tuesday, May 24, masters and PhDs of ESPM attended a meeting at the headquarters of Investe SP called PEIEX Methodology Training, with the presence of technical experts from Apex-Brazil and ESPM.
Ilan Avrichir, director of the Business Administration Course of ESPM, emphasized that a high-level multidisciplinary team was created to ensure excellent results to the participating companies.
The economist Neusa Nunes, a professor of the undergraduate and graduate courses of ESPM, believes that there will be positive results after the inclusion of experts in the companies from São Paulo: “Based on my experience in the market, similar to, for example, the process of internationalization of Natura, I see that the best will be done for the companies seeking to gain market share abroad.”
According to Silvana Gomes, coordinator of the program at Investe SP, the São Paulo Division is complete: “We have partners in all areas that will meet the needs of future exporters, such as Sebrae, Correios, Desenvolve São Paulo, in other words, there is a range of services hitherto unprecedented in PEIEX. And this is very good for us to achieve the final result.”
Potential – “We need to be aware of the potential of foreign markets, especially of our neighboring countries. The countries in Latin America, for example, have been reporting, in general, high rates of economic growth and improvement in the consumption pattern of the population. With PEIEX, the companies from São Paulo will be better prepared to take advantage of these opportunities,” said Juan Quirós, president of Investe SP, who attended the meeting.
Investe SP will lead a division in the city of São Paulo and the metropolitan region of PEIEX, proposing strategies for different functional areas of the participating companies, seeking to promote improvements to their products, services, processes and management. Thus, Investe SP seeks to contribute to the expansion of the range of companies from São Paulo able to compete for space in the foreign market.
By April 2018, the division has the goal of assisting 260 companies from the state capital and region. The assistance is provided at no cost to the companies. In return, the entrepreneur must be available for the verification of the existing procedures and controls in all areas of the company and for interviews with the technical team of Investe SP. In addition, it is important to motivate the workforce and participate in the training meetings seeking to improve the management of products and processes.
In the state of São Paulo, the other divisions of PEIEX are led by Fundação Vanzolini and the Economic Development Agency of the Greater ABC Region. The division led by Investe SP integrates SP Export, São Paulo Export Support Program – an initiative of the Department of Economic Development, Technology and Innovation (SDECTI) coordinated by Investe SP in partnership with Apex-Brazil.
Márcio França, vice-governor and state secretary of the Department of Economic Development, Technology and Innovation, emphasizes the importance of exports to strengthen the economy: “The governor Geraldo Alckmin has been often highlighting that foreign trade is one of the main alternatives for Brazil to overcome the current economic difficulties, given that it generates jobs and foreign exchange, improves the trade balance and increases the volume of investments in production and technological development. It is worth noting that Brazil represents only 3% of the global market; therefore, Brazilian companies have 97% yet to be explored in foreign trade,” he said.
How to participate
The actions promoted by PEIEX are developed in regions with strong export potential and range from the implementation of management solutions, which rely depend on the entrepreneur itself and the available funds of the company, to the provision of technical information and support to access the markets, which are processes external to the company.
In the division led by Investe SP, a team of 18 professionals from the Agency and from Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM), which is a partner in the project, will act directly in the planning, implementation and monitoring of PEIEX within the companies.
The technical experts will visit the companies selected by the project to make a diagnosis of their operations, identifying opportunities for the implementation of improvements in the areas of strategic management, human capital, finance and cost, sales and marketing, production and foreign trade. In addition, the team will provide assistance in the implementation of these improvements by the companies.
Any company from the state capital or metropolitan region interested in participating in the PEIEX should contact Investe SP by email: firstname.lastname@example.org. The companies that have the profile and potential for export will be selected to be assisted by the project.
