On January 28, Castrolanda opened a Seed Processing Unit (SPU) in Itaberá (SP). With an investment of R$ 32 million, the Unit, which covers 15,000 square meters of built area, is divided into three sectors: laboratory for seed analysis, office space and production area. The project is assisted by Investe São Paulo, which primarily provides support in environmental licensing and infrastructure.

“Castrolanda’s investment shows the confidence of Brazilian entrepreneurs in the agribusiness in São Paulo. The state is home to companies from various industrial segments of the food industry and the largest consumer market in Latin America,” said the president of Investe SP, Juan Quirós.

This is Castrolanda’s second project assisted by the agency. In 2013, the company joined the cooperatives Batavo and Capal to build a milk processing plant in Itapetininga, with an investment of R$ 145 million.

It will produce high quality seeds of soybean, wheat and beans to supply the markets in São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul. The production will also supply the north and west of Paraná.

According to Rudinei Bogorni, coordinator of the Unit, the SPU has the capacity to receive four varieties simultaneously. “The unit has hoppers with a capacity of 150 tons, pre-cleaning machines, conveyor belts with capacity of 120 tons per hour. The company also installed dryers in the column model with high drying capacity to store the raw material. The Unit consists of 24 silos with a capacity of 150 tons each, suspended and self-cleaning silos that facilitate the process within the unit,” said Rudinei.

The processing and cooling have flows with capacity of 24 tons per hour and the storage capacity is 630,000 seed bags. “One of the highlights of this Unit is the automation system throughout the production process, which allows us to have greater flexibility, more safety and traceability in the process,” says Rudinei.

“With this investment, we expect to consolidate Castrolanda’s strategic position in agriculture in São Paulo, spreading the cooperative spirit and bringing solutions in terms of inputs, information and technology to a modern, productive and sustainable agriculture,” said Márcio Copacheski, manager of the Agricultural Business Unit of the Cooperative.
