British group Highview Power Storage is eyeing projects in Brazil

Valor International

British group Highview Power Storage, specializing in electricity storage technologies, is eyeing the development of projects in Brazil. Matthew Barnett, Highview's business development head, says the idea is to participate in projects in partnership with the government and Brazilian companies. The technology’s cost — of around R$6,000 per kilowatt installed — is not competitive with other energy sources yet. But Mr. Barnett says that companies’ interest on the topic is increasing and that, in the near future, it would be possible to develop projects without subsidies. As first reported by Valor, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) plans to launch in the second half a research and strategic development program for power storage technologies.
