On March 30th, the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will host the lecture Economic Scenarios of Relations between Brazil – Arab Countries in São Paulo. The meeting will be hosted by the Arab Chamber’s CEO Michel Alaby and investments director Daniel Hannun. The event is for members only. Other parties interested in attending may check for openings with the Chamber.

“I am discussing growth forecasts, political unrest and business opportunities in these Arab countries,” said Alaby. According to the CEO, Brazil’s leading partners in the Arab world at this time are the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Qatar, Yemen, Morocco, Oman, Kuwait, Lebanon and Libya.

The lecture, says Alaby, will also address business opportunities, especially in manufactured goods. The CEO says there is plenty of room for exporting products such as agricultural machinery, cosmetics, medical and hospital materials, building materials, wood products and men’s and women’s shoes.

Daniel Hannun will discuss the economic scenario in Brazil. “I will point out that the depreciation of (Brazilian currency) the real is conducive to exportation. If things don’t look good on the domestic front, there are opportunities out there,” he said. The executive will also tackle domestic macroeconomic issues.

Bilateral trade

In January and February of this year, Brazil grossed US$ 1.75 billion in revenues from exports to Arab League countries, down 12.77% from the comparable period in 2014. The main items exported were meats, sugar and ores.

Brazil’s imports from Arab countries in January and February amounted to US$ 1.12 billion, down 33.7% from the first two months of 2014.

Brazil’s imports from Arab countries were mostly made up of mineral fuels, fertilizer and plastics.

The data were supplied by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade and compiled by the Arab Chamber.
