ALL starts with containers in the Brasil Ferrovias System

Gazeta Mercantil - 12/07/2007

América Latina Logística (ALL) will begin its first container operation in the old Brasil Ferrovias system. In partnership with the Belgian Katoen Natie, the concessionaire may transport, already next year, 12 TEUs between the Katoen's Multimodal Distribution Center (CDM) in Paulínia (SP) and the port of Santos. This year, ALL will close with transportation of 50 thousand TEUs in the South network alone. ALL's manager of industrialized products Bruno Lino said that starting in 2009, the transportation of industrialized cargo in the north zone may reach 20 thousand TEUs. Lino explained that the containers will be stored in the Distribution Center in Paulínia and, from there, they will go to the port of Santos. "Both ALL's and Katoen's clients will be able to use this new railroad branch. The estimate is that this operation may take 80 trucks per day from the roads of São Paulo", stressed the executive officer. Lino explained that the branch in the Distribution Center was in operational conditions - which made it possible to invest only in the renovation of the wagons and locomotives that will make the transportation. "ALL invested nearly R$ 6 million (US$ 3.37 million) in the restoration of 12 wagons and six locomotives", pointed out the officer. He explained that in April the composition that will serve the Distribution Center will have 20 wagons with the capacity to transport 800 TEUs. According to the Katoen Natie, with the end of the works, the terminal will have the capacity to receive 2,400 containers a month at the entrance and exit in the Multimodal Distribution Center of Paulínia. In addition, Katoen foresees the expansion of the container yard with 15 thousand square meters to 45 thousand square meters, the improvement of a warehouse to 34 thousand square meters, and the construction of a container cleaning and repair station.
