On March 30, during an event held in Araraquara, Governor Geraldo Alckmin congratulated Hyundai Rotem for the investment of R$ 100 million in the construction of a plant in the city, which already employs 300 employees and started production with 240 rail cars for São Paulo Metropolitan Train Company (CPTM), and other 112 for the subway in Bahia.

“The plant was completed in less than a year and evidences the potential of the state of São Paulo, which continues to attract investments, showing that it is possible to help Brazil,” said Alckmin.

The governor and the mayor of Araraquara, Marcelo Barbieri, thanked the support provided by Investe São Paulo for making the investment possible.

The opening was attended by the global president of Hyundai, Kyuhwan Han; the ambassador of South Korea in Brazil, Jeong-gwan Lee; the secretary of Transportation and Logistics, Duarte Nogueira, and the president of Investe SP, Juan Quirós. The event brought together more than 400 people, including authorities, leaders and employees of the company.

Geraldo Alckmin made a summary of the investments made in public transportation in the state and said that between subway, CPTM trains and VLT, the fleet should reach over 1,100 cars, which will carry more than 10 million people on a daily basis. All authorities welcomed the integration of Hyundai with the community of Araraquara and region in various partnerships, especially in education.

The president of Investe SP, Juan Quirós, said that after fulfilling the first major orders, the plant should have a permanent production capacity of 200 rail cars per year and is already contacting Brazilian suppliers for the transfer of technology. “The commitment is to reach the minimum of 60% of nationalization. This is very important,” he concluded.
