The Startup World Cup, a global startup competition organized by Fenox Venture Capital that awards US$ 1,000,000 in investments, returns with its 2018 edition to look for the next world champion.

In South America, the regional edition will be opened through a partnership with Investe São Paulo shortly after SP Conecta, at the agency’s headquarters, starting at 2:30 p.m., on August 31. Applications are now open on the website and the top 15 proposals will pitch in English to a panel of investors that will attend the event.

The Startup World Cup will be held in more than 20 regional events around the world, culminating in a grand finale in San Francisco - USA, in May 2018.

In 2017, UniFa, from Japan, took home the trophy with the US$1 million investment. In addition, all regional champions received US$10,000 in legal services from Orrick and Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, and a product package from Salesforce. In second place was Open Bionics, from the UK, and the third was Ahlijasa, from Indonesia.

“We offer more than just funding. We help startups create synergies and strategic partnerships by consolidating their path around the world. By working with us, entrepreneurs have the opportunity to grow their business organically, entering new markets,” says Anis Uzzaman, CEO of Fenox.

“It’s an honor for Investe SP to partner with one of the biggest startup events in the world. It will be a great opportunity for businesses from all over the country to not only compete for the grand prize, but to also enjoy the day and do some important networking through SP Conecta,” says the director of Investe SP, Sérgio Costa.

“This event is yet another proof that the São Paulo Technology Park is often used for activities that foster innovation, an express guideline of the governor,” said the vice governor and state secretary of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Márcio França.

About SP Conecta

Held for the second time, SP Conecta brings together the most important agents that foster innovation in the state of São Paulo to assist startups at no cost at the headquarters of Investe São Paulo.

The event will be held on August 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, with over 40 entities available for connection, panels and presentations.

This is already the second edition of the event, which featured the participation of 40 exhibitors in 2016 and was attended by more than 600 people – an audience that should be exceeded in 2017. The new version brings a greater focus on business internationalization, with the presence of several Chambers of commerce and foreign diplomatic organizations interested in developing joint actions with Brazilian businesses.
